the case
Jason Marton, father to two boys in Union County, NC, wanted to run for his local Board of Education seat against a long-term incumbent. Given his lack of name recognition, his campaign had a major uphill battle to defeat the incumbent. Because of my background in political science and the work on design and branding I was doing in my current role, Jason asked me to create a brand for his campaign.
the approach
Name recognition was my first and foremost concern. What was going to be a bold and memorable representation of Jason Marton as candidate and play well across multiple pieces of collateral? I collaborated closely with Jason to help determine fonts and colors that would play well in a campaign and were a good representation of him.
the output
First I developed a full name logo and initial logo to anchor his brand and collateral. I also created a visual representation of his tagline, “Student Centered, Teacher Focused, Community Powered,” to draw attention to the root of his campaign. I created a subsequent set of materials including yard signs, bumper stickers, car magnets, palm cards, business cards, website graphics and social media images.
